Why The Hot Toddy Is The Perfect Winter Drink

When the chill sets in or a cold takes hold, the Hot Toddy comes to the rescue. This age-old cocktail has a whiskey base to warm your body, honey and lemon to soothe your throat, and an aroma that opens up your sinuses. The Hot Toddy isn't just a comfort drink. It's a time-tested recipe that will have you feeling better in no time.

Hot Toddy Ingredients

  • 2 oz Whiskey (Bourbon or Rye)
  • 1 Tablespoon Honey
  • 1/2 oz Fresh Lemon Juice
  • 1 Black Tea Bag
  • Hot Water
  • Lemon Wheel and Cinnamon Stick for garnish

How To Make a Hot Toddy

  1. Boil water and pour into a heatproof glass or mug.
  2. Add tea bag to the glass and steep for three minutes. Remove tea bag and discard.
  3. Stir in honey until dissolved.
  4. Pour in whiskey and fresh lemon juice, then stir gently.
  5. Garnish with a lemon wheel and a cinnamon stick.

Want to really open that nose? Use a high proof bourbon like Noah's Mill, or a high proof rye, like our Baby Unicorn 3 barrel pick.

Hot Toddy Riff

For a unique twist, try the "Ginny Toddy," by substituting gin for whiskey and garnish with an anise star instead of a cinnamon stick.
