Lynchburg Lemonade Is The Perfect Summer Whiskey Cocktail

A great summer cocktail, like Sangria or La Batanga, is light and refreshing but has just enough kick to keep a smile on your face. Though often overlooked for more highbrow drinks, Lynchburg Lemonade checks all the right boxes. It's named after Lynchburg, Tennessee, hometown of Jack Daniel's Distillery. The recipe, which features Jack Daniel's whiskey, was created by Alabama bar owner Tony Mason who took the brand to court when it popularized his concoction. He lost the legal battle, but his loss is the world's gain. A wise choice in hot weather, there aren't a lot of whiskey cocktails that can say that.

Lynchburg Lemonade Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 oz Jack Daniel's Tennessee whiskey
  • 1 oz Orange Liqueur
  • 1 oz Freshly Squeezed Lemon Juice
  • 4 oz Lemon-Lime Soda
  • Ice
  • Lemon Wedge

How To Make Lynchburg Lemonade

  1. Fill a highball glass with ice cubes almost to the top.
  2. Add whiskey, orange liqueur, and lemon juice and stir gently to mix.
  3. Top off with lemon-lime soda, stirring once more to incorporate.
  4. Garnish with a lemon wedge

Jack Daniel's is a sour mash whiskey. In the process of making sour mash whiskey, a portion of the previously fermented mash (the "sour") is added to the new mash, ensuring consistency and enhancing the depth of flavor in each batch.

Lynchburg Lemonade Riff

For a tantalizing twist on the classic Lynchburg Lemonade, swap out Jack Daniel's Tennessee whiskey for Jack Daniel's Rye whiskey. This bold variation introduces a new dimension of flavor to the cocktail, marrying the spicy and robust notes of rye whiskey with the bright citrus and sweetness of the original recipe.
