The Frozen Old Fashioned Is The Perfect End Of Summer Cocktail

With kids back at school and chilly breezes at night, it's clear the summer is coming to an end. However, there's one last holiday weekend coming up and the Frozen Old Fashioned is the perfect cocktail for any "End of Summer" parties. A slushy-fied variation on the time-honored Old Fashioned, this mix of bourbon, bitters, orange juice, and ice goes great with food and fun. And if the changing seasons have you blue, just remember, September is National Bourbon Heritage Month.

Old Fashioned Slushie Ingredients

  • 2 oz Bourbon
  • 1/2 oz Maple Syrup
  • 4 dashes Angostura Bitters
  • 1/2 oz Fresh Orange Juice
  • 1 Cup Ice
  • Orange wedge and Luxardo Cherry for garnish

How To Make An Old Fashioned Slushie

  1. Combine bourbon, simple syrup, bitters, and fresh orange juice in a blender.
  2. Add the ice and blend until the mixture reaches a smooth, slushie consistency.
  3. Pour the slushie into a chilled Old Fashioned glass.

Since you're adding more ice than you would use in a normal cocktail, use a higher proof bourbon, such as a bottled-in-bond release, so you don't lose that whiskey kick.

Frozen Old Fashioned Riff

For a tropical twist, swap out the bourbon for dark rum, and replace the orange juice with pineapple juice. The result is a Tiki-inspired frozen rum drink that’s just as satisfying, but with a sunny, beachy vibe.
